FAQs

FAQ
Is it a guided tour, or freestyle riding?

BOTH! As with any of the rentals on the island, the guides are there for your safety and to navigate you around our many shallow waters and sandbars...

Your address is on Gum Tree Rd, but where are the skis?

The skis launch from C.C. Haigh boat landing, between the bridges coming onto the island, but don’t Google it! The landing has two different addresses and neither of them get you to the landing. Please follow the directions that are emailed/texted to you once your reservation is confirmed.

What is the minimum age requirement to drive?
  • You must be at least 15 years of age to drive a jet ski and have somebody at least 18 years of age accompany you – we do not charge for an additional rider on the same ski.
  • Drivers 16 years old can drive alone with a valid driver’s license and by purchasing the damage waiver.
What is the maximum weight capacity and how many riders does the ski hold?

This is one of the most common questions and a difficult one to answer. The skis hold 3 passengers. The weight limit is 350lbs, but that should be spread amongst two adults, rather than one adult and two teenagers. One adult and two small children is fine.

Is there a minimum, or maximum age to ride?

There is no minimum age, but riders must be 30lbs. There is also no maximum age and we have had riders as old as 85 on our skis. However, you should take into consideration your physical ability to get back on the ski, should you fall of – those who usually fall of the one who say they won’t.

The Usual:

Unlike other rental companies on the island, Stu’s jet ski rentals are truly a tour. Rather than long no-wake zone areas that eat into your play time, our skis are not in a no-wake zone. We also don’t take you into the Calibogue Sound where the waters are always rough, there are many other skis and all you get to do is play around aimlessly for 30-45 minutes in congested areas.

Stu’s usual tour starts at the mouth of Mackay Creek, on the western side of Pickney Island - a local’s favorite due to its calm waters and majestic scenery. By not having no-wake zones, we can get you to the playground faster, or we can take our time and play with the dolphins we are most likely going to see on the way around Pickney Island Nature Preserve. Once we exit Mackay Creek, we enter Port Royal Sound, where you have plenty of space and time to play around on your skis “freestyle”. After your freestyle time is over, we head into Skull Creek on the eastern side of Pickney Island. From there you will get to see the famous restaurants Boat House, Dockside, and Hudson’s from the water, before returning to our embarkation landing.

If there are no reservations subsequent to your tour, your guides will offer an opportunity to extend your ride until our next tour reservation. Often, our guests like to use the opportunity to spend more time viewing the amazing wildlife our island has to offer, or getting closer to the dolphin. This extended time is offered at 30% off the normal rate, or $35/half hour.

The Custom:

For rentals of 5 skis, or more in a group, you can choose your own adventure. Want to go out to Daufuskie Island and grab their famous Scrap Iron? We can get you there! Want a guided tour to the disappearing islands? Just ask! We can even take you all the way to River Street in Savannah if you want! The Custom is meant to be what YOU want to do. If you want to book a custom tour, it is best to do so early upon your arrival, as we will need to block the schedule to meet your needs.

The Custom tours can be booked for 1hr, or more (based on availability).

If you happen to do The Usual and want to book The Custom (and visa-versa), we will provide you with 10% off your entire rental booking during your stay. If you want to book The Custom and you want it to include a stop at Daufuskie, or River Street, you are billed for the time the skis leave the embarkation location, to the time they return, PLUS $50/hr your guides are not on the water.

For example; If you choose to go to Daufuskie and do the self-guided golf cart tour, you would be charged for the skis, as well as $50/hr for the time your guides wait for you at the marina.

FAQS on our Jet Skis:

Q: Can I just rent the skis and not do a tour, or have a guide?

A: It’s called the Lowcountry because much of our island is at, or below sea level. As a result, we have many, many sandbars and oyster beds – even the locals hit them. The last thing you want on your vacation is to hit an oyster bed going 50 mph. It is not only dangerous, it is deadly.

Q: Can minors drive the skis?

A: By law, you need to be 16 to operate our skis and there are manufacturer warnings on the skis that state this. Due to insurance liabilities, a 16yr has to be accompanied by an adult (same ski) in order to drive Stu’s skis. 18 and up can ride without a second rider.

Q: Do you charge for a second rider?

A: We do not charge for a second rider on the same ski.

Q: Do you offer discounts to multiple bookings, or have a loyalty program?

A: We offer 30% off to locals. We offer 10% to veterans and first responders. We offer 10% off to same adventure, for up to 14 months. For example; if you booked jet ski rentals in 2023 and want to book again next summer, we will have you in our system and you will just need to remind us you rented in 2023. Same goes for boats, and tours.
